Who We Are
Brainworks helps individuals and families live their best lives and realize their full potential, no matter what difficulties they may currently be facing. We offer targeted assessments, treatment, and consultations in a variety of sectors including rehabilitation, psychoeducational services, neuropsychology, developmental services, and general mental health. We serve a broad range of clients, from those looking to optimize their mental health performance or brain functioning, to those recovering from serious injury or loss, such as brain injury, chronic pain, or the aftermath of trauma. We have expertise navigating insurance systems, working with clients injured in motor vehicle accidents, at work, or who have suffered military duty trauma. We provide services from our offices in Huntsville and North Bay, in the community, in client homes along the Highway 11 corridor, through Mobile Clinics, and by video to those throughout the province via eRehabilitation™. We are passionate about helping our clients, wherever they are in their journey, crush barriers and take their next step forward.
Beliefs & Values
Client-Centred
Being client-centred means that our care and effort revolves around our clients and that we strive to do the best for them. It means that we spend hours in preparation for the work that we do, we show up early, we always ask what is in the best interests of our clients, and we fight for their beliefs and desires. We go the extra mile.
Passionate
We love our work. We love seeing the look on our clients’ faces when a goal is achieved, a hurdle overcome, or a step forward is made. We love to journey alongside people through dark times and into new beginnings.
Excellence
We believe in clinical and administrative excellence. We provide our clients with the most up to date, evidence-based, best-practices available. We provide therapies that are supported by research, have the evidence to back up our innovative techniques, and have years of validated research at our disposal. We cannot successfully prioritize clinical excellence without effective administrative support. Our front-line administrators, insurance specialists, and managers round out our team to ensure that clinicians can focus on their clinical work. We promote ongoing education amongst our team, with participation in industry events, regular supervision, mentoring sessions, annual staff days, reflective practice workshops, and regular “brainworkshops” to keep current on new developments.
Collaborative
We believe that collaboration is critical to the success of each client’s journey. We collaborate with a host of professionals, including physicians, case managers, speech language pathologists, occupational therapists, physiotherapists, and social workers, to name only a few.
Innovative
We believe in a culture of innovation. We continually create innovative programs that meet the needs of our clients and promote hope and other positive psychological variables.
Community Engagement & History
History
After years of establishing a strong clinical background and robust professional network, Arden McGregor and her husband, Russell Temple, launched Brainworks in 2003, with the credo, “client-centred rehabilitation”. In an industry that was all-too-often insurer-focused, their focus was on the clients. At the time, they were told they could not survive in business if they were not on insurance companies’ preferred provider lists. However, their approach resonated with health care professionals and Brainworks began expanding, almost exclusively by word-of-mouth referrals. Brainworks quickly outgrew its network of home offices and by 2005, moved its team to a larger professional office in London and continued its trajectory of growth and expansion. In 2008, Brainworks began their expansion into “the Near North”. By 2018, they had completely divested from Southwestern Ontario, intentionally positioning themselves exclusively in the Near North and Northeastern Ontario health care markets to serve clients in previously unserved and underserviced areas, along Ontario’s Highway 11 corridor and beyond.
Community Engagement
Since day one, Brainworks has been involved in the communities in which we live and work. We have partnered with local organizations to support initiatives such as education days, fundraising, sports teams, and special events. We have shared information on topics such as pain, mental health, concussion, brain health, and sleep at local support groups and organizations. We have hosted webinars to connect and share information in our communities.
With deep roots in the brain injury community, and many clients living with the effects of brain injuries, raising awareness and promoting prevention are two important areas of focus for us. Each year, we host a brain injury awareness campaign during Brain Injury Awareness Month to build awareness about brain injury across our province and beyond. We have participated in raising funds to help people with brain injuries who desperately need services but lack the required funding. We have also provided extensive pro bono work for people living with the effects of serious injuries who need services but have no funding, or whose funding has ceased. We have accepted invitations to schools, universities, community events, workplaces, and social agencies to share information about brain injury and about the importance of prevention. Our team has been active in various volunteer capacities, including supporting local brain injury associations and being a founding partner of Camp Dawn, a camp for adult survivors of brain injuries. We have also funded bicycle helmets and participated in helmet fittings to help keep children safe in various regions across our province.
Our commitment to supporting the communities in which we live and work is extensive and ongoing. Follow our social media accounts to keep up to date on our latest initiatives.
